More Than Two Thirds of Techies are Happy in Their Work

- Research From the IT Job Board Confirms Public Sector is Growing in Popularity

LONDON, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- More than two thirds (71 percent) of techies are happy working in their chosen sector, according to research(1) carried out by The IT Job Board, http://www.theitjobboard.co.uk.

For the 29 percent who are not content with the industry they work in, nearly half (49 percent) would prefer to work in software and IT services, and 30 percent advised that they would rather choose IT jobs in the public sector.

When asked which sectors are the ones to watch in 2009, 44 percent of survey respondents pointed to software and IT services, and 32 percent to the public sector. The reasons underlining this were that these industries would need to be up-to-date with the latest technologies (35 percent), and that they are also most likely to benefit from government expenditure (25 percent).

Alex Farrell, managing director of The IT Job Board, said: "It is positive to see that the majority of IT professionals are content with their chosen industries."

She added: "I do, however, think that this survey has flagged up some interesting points. Recent commentary has alerted to the fact that while the private sector is experiencing a real decline, the public sector is seeing growth. And, it certainly seems that candidates are looking towards the public sector for jobs in IT. Today it accounts for around 10 percent of the vacancies we advertise on the site."
