Fortinet Completes U.S. Federal Government Certification for IPv6-Capable Firewall

FortiGate Integrated Security Product Line Fulfills Mandatory Requirements for IPv6 Support

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/10/08 -- Fortinet® -- the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that the Fortinet FortiGate® family of multi-threat security appliances has successfully completed IPv6 interoperability certification and is now approved for listing on the U.S. federal government's Unified Capabilities Approved Products List (APL). As part of the Department of Defense (DoD) IPv6 Generic Test Plan Version 3, this certification is based on testing conducted by the federal government's Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC). In addition, Fortinet's Letter of Conformance, dated August 13, 2008, validates that the FortiGate operating system -- FortiOS(TM) -- provides the critical base support for IPv6. As a result, the FortiGate product line is now certified as an IPv6-capable firewall, which enables federal government customers to deploy FortiGate security products while ensuring that government requirements in this regard are met.

The JITC approved vendor list is created for the Defense Information Systems Agency to globally share testing approvals for an assortment of DoD applied communications equipment. The APL offers the JITC community an increased level of confidence that the communications equipment they are purchasing have been tested for information assurance and/or interoperability.

"As U.S. government agencies prepare to comply with IPv6 requirements, Fortinet offers the ability to not only provide a certified firewall but also additional critical security functions such as antivirus, Web content filtering, intrusion prevention, virtual private network and anti-spam -- all integrated into a single device," said Jeff Lake, vice president of Federal Operations at Fortinet. "Adding IPv6 certification to our product line gives federal customers the ability to deploy defense in depth with a next generation security gateway as well as the confidence that they are meeting regulatory requirements."

This latest IPv6 certification builds upon the IPv6 Ready Logo Phase 2 certification Fortinet already achieved and announced in February of this year for its FortiGate product line. Fortinet's FortiOS 3.0 firmware, which is standard within its family of FortiGate security appliances, delivers an advanced security and management platform through the integration with its FortiAnalyzer(TM) and FortiManager(TM) systems -- providing increased network protection with advanced provisioning, reporting, logging, alerts and event correlation for all of Fortinet's security products. The integration with FortiManager enables centralized management for all FortiGate security appliances and FortiAnalyzer systems for intelligent security analysis, event correlation, logging and reporting.

In addition to this latest IPv6 certification, Fortinet's FortiOS 3.0 and specific FortiGate multi-threat security appliance models have been certified to Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 Level 2. Although FortiOS has already been Common Criteria EAL4+ certified by NIAP, Fortinet is also undergoing extensive critical federal evaluations and certifications to meet the information assurance requirements required by NIAP for Common Criteria Medium Robustness V2.0.
