Desktone Expands into Europe, Signing SCC to Deliver Desktops as a Service (DaaS®)

Desktone, Inc., provider of the first platform that enables hosted virtual desktops as an outsourced subscription service, today announced a new agreement with SCC, part of the SCH Group and Europe’s largest independent technology solutions provider, to deliver virtual desktops as a service®. With this agreement, Desktone, which already has partnerships with leading service providers in North America and Japan, expands its reach into the burgeoning European market.

As part of the agreement, SCC will offer cloud-based virtual desktops based on the Desktone Virtual-D Platform™ to commercial and government organizations across Europe.

“We’ve had significant interest from both European end user organizations and service providers, who want to benefit from the dramatic cost savings and flexibility that DaaS can deliver,” says Harry Ruda, CEO for Desktone. “SCC’s extensive experience in hosting customer infrastructure, combined with its impressive data center footprint, make it an ideal partner to launch our European business.”

“DaaS offers tremendous promise for our customers. It’s unparalleled in enabling organizations to realize the TCO benefits of VDI without devoting any upfront resources to CAPEX,” says Rhys Sharp, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of SCH. “Desktone is the pioneer of desktops as a service, and we’re thrilled to be working with them in delivering such a critical offering to European organizations.”

Desktone’s Virtual-D Platform is uniquely designed along two tiers (service provider and enterprise). It lets enterprises keep their data secure within their own infrastructure, and maintain ownership and control over their Windows OS images, applications and all relating licensing while outsourcing the physical data center infrastructure powering their virtual desktops to SCC.

SCC’s DaaS service is expected to launch in the fourth quarter, 2009.
